Connect Understory to Tripletex

Connect your Understory account to Tripletex so your bookings, refunds, fees and gift cards are booked automatically. Covers what you need, what to prepare in Tripletex, the connection steps, statuses, pausing and disconnecting.

The Tripletex integration sends your Understory bookkeeping straight into your Tripletex ledger — bookings, refunds, payment fees and gift cards are posted automatically, so you don't have to re-enter anything. This article covers how to connect the two systems.

Note: The Tripletex integration is currently in beta, which means you have to contact us in the chat to have it activated on your account.

What you need before you connect

  • An active Understory Pay account — Accounting is only available to businesses using Understory Pay.

  • The Accounting product activated on your Understory account. If it isn't active yet, reach out to us in the chat.

  • Permission to manage accounting in Understory — if you can't see the Accounting menu, ask an admin on your team.

  • A Tripletex API token — see below. You cannot connect without one.

What you need to prepare in Tripletex

Tripletex refuses some of this outright, so it is worth doing before you start rather than discovering it from a failed booking.

An API token

Understory needs an employee token to act on your behalf.

  1. In Tripletex, go to Innstillinger → Vår API — the API settings page opens

  2. Open "Mine API-tokens" — your existing tokens are listed here

  3. Create a new token for Understory — give it a name you will recognise later

  4. Copy the token — you'll paste it into Understory in a moment

The token needs permission to create customers, products, invoices and vouchers. A narrower token connects successfully and then fails when the first booking arrives, which is harder to spot.

If you'd like Understory's settlement vouchers to arrive as drafts for you to review rather than being posted straight away, the token also needs the Advanced Voucher permission.

Your company details

Tripletex refuses to create any invoice until both of these are registered:

  • Your organisation number — under Innstillinger → Selskap

  • A company bank account — under Innstillinger → Selskap → Bankkontoer

Either one missing stops every booking from reaching your accounts. If one is, Understory tells you which on the Tripletex setup page.

A payment type for each payment provider

One payment type per payment provider, each pointing at that provider's settlement account. These can only be created in Tripletex — Understory can't create them for you.

Each one must be set to show on orders. This is the setting that catches people out: a payment type without it looks completely normal in Tripletex, but Understory can't see it at all and you won't be able to select it during setup.

A manual voucher type

Understory posts some entries as manual vouchers, so you need a voucher type suitable for that — often called Manuelt bilag. Not every Tripletex account has one. Some have only document-driven types such as Utgående faktura or Betaling, and a manual voucher can't be posted under those.

How to connect Tripletex

  1. Go to Accounting in the left menu — the Accounting page opens

  2. Open the Settings tab — you'll see the Integration section, which is where your accounting software is connected

  3. Click + Integration — the Add integration dialog opens

  4. Select Tripletex — the connect dialog opens

  5. Paste your Employee API access token — the token you created in Tripletex

  6. Click Connect Tripletex — you're asked to approve Understory's access to your booking data

  7. Approve the access — you land on the Tripletex setup page

Once you're connected, nothing syncs yet — you need to tell Understory which Tripletex accounts to post to. See Set up your Tripletex accounts in Understory for that step.

What the connection statuses mean

On Accounting → Settings, the Tripletex row shows you where things stand:

  • Connected — everything is set up and your entries are syncing.

  • Missing account setup — Tripletex is connected but your accounts aren't mapped yet, so nothing is syncing. Click Set up to finish.

  • Reconnect required — Understory has lost access to your Tripletex account. Click Reconnect and approve again.

  • Paused — syncing is switched off on purpose. Your entries are held until you resume.

How to pause or resume syncing

Pausing is useful if you're closing a financial year or want to stop entries reaching Tripletex for a while.

  1. Go to Accounting → Settings

  2. Click the ⋮ menu on the Tripletex row — the integration options open

  3. Select Pause sync — a Paused label appears on the row

To start again, open the same menu and select Resume sync.

How to disconnect Tripletex

  1. Go to Accounting → Settings

  2. Click the ⋮ menu on the Tripletex row

  3. Select Disconnect — a confirmation asks whether you're sure

  4. Confirm — Understory stops sending transactions to Tripletex

You can also remove the integration from the Tripletex setup page using Remove integration in the top right.

Disconnecting doesn't touch anything already posted in Tripletex — those vouchers stay exactly as they are.

Troubleshooting

1. Understory says your organisation number or bank account is missing

Tripletex won't create any invoice until both are registered. Add them under Innstillinger → Selskap and Innstillinger → Selskap → Bankkontoer, then come back to the setup page.

2. You can't find your payment type during setup

The payment type is probably not set to show on orders. Understory can only see payment types with that setting, even though they look completely normal in Tripletex. Change it in Tripletex and the payment type appears.

3. The suggested voucher type looks wrong

Understory suggests a voucher type during setup, but not every Tripletex account has a manual one. If the suggestion is a document-driven type such as Utgående faktura, your entries will be refused. Create a manual voucher type in Tripletex and select that instead.

4. The row says "Reconnect required"

Understory's access to Tripletex has lapsed or been revoked. Click Reconnect on the row and approve again — your account setup is kept, so you don't have to map your accounts a second time, and you won't need your API token again.

5. You can't find the Accounting page

The Accounting menu only appears if the Accounting product is active on your account and you have permission to see it. Contact us in the chat if you'd like it activated.
