Understory Accounting is a paid add-on that turns your Understory transactions into accounting-ready, error-checked bookkeeping data — automatically synced to your accounting software, so bookkeeping takes minutes, not hours. It's not an accounting system: it sits between Understory and the accounting software you already use, and keeps the two in sync.

What Understory Accounting does
Records your transactions automatically — every payment, refund, and gift card movement becomes a labelled accounting entry the moment it happens.
Syncs to your accounting software as drafts — entries arrive in your accounting: You or your bookkeeper just needs to approve them.
Surfaces errors as they happen — if an entry can't sync, you can see why, fix it, and retry it right away, instead of discovering problems at month-end.
Makes reconciliation simple — a period-by-period view lets you check that Understory and your accounting software match, category by category.
Finding your way around
You'll find everything under Finance in the left-hand menu, on the Accounting page. It has four tabs:
Overview — the key figures for a period: revenue, customer prepayments, and gift cards.
Activity — every accounting entry, its sync status (Synced, Pending, or Failed), and the booking behind it. You can search, filter, and retry failed entries from here.
Reconciliation — accumulated totals for each period, grouped the way your accounting system thinks: opening balance, movements, closing balance.
Settings — your integration, account mapping, billing, and user access.
What you'll need
Requirements:
An active Understory Accounting subscription — it's a paid add-on on top of your Understory plan.
Understory Pay — Accounting is available to Understory Pay customers.
An Admin role, or the Accounting permission.

Good to know
It doesn't replace your accountant or your accounting software. Understory Accounting prepares and syncs your data — it doesn't verify your numbers or file VAT or reports with the authorities.
It's mostly automated, not fully hands-off. Most entries flow through on their own, but some need your attention — the Activity tab shows you which ones.
Only Understory transactions are included. Bookings made outside Understory — for example through OTAs like GetYourGuide or Viator — aren't part of the data.
