Setting up your first Meta (Facebook/Instagram) ads through Understory is designed to help you quickly learn what works best for your business and build a solid foundation for future growth. The process starts broad, letting Meta’s powerful algorithm identify the best audience in your selected region - then we use your knowledge to refine and scale your results.

How to Set Up Your First Ads

Requirements: Access to the "Grow" and "Advertising" sections in your Understory dashboard.

  1. Click "Grow" in your Understory dashboard - Opens growth features

  2. Open the "Advertising" section - Access ad setup options

  3. Begin a new ad campaign setup - Launch campaign creation workflow

  4. Review and confirm your campaign setup - Campaign ready to launch

How Meta Ad Targeting Works

Your first campaign will use broad targeting. This means we let Meta’s system show your ads to a wide pool of people in your chosen area. Meta’s algorithm will watch how different people respond, then automatically focus on those most likely to book or engage. Narrowing your targeting too soon can stop the system from learning who your best customers are.

Using Your Local Knowledge for Better Results

  • If you know that nearly all your customers are tourists, let us know! We can adjust settings to avoid local traits like the local language.

  • If you aren’t sure about your customer mix, starting broad will help you (and us) find out who responds best.

  • Providing extra details - like which nationalities book most, age ranges, or busiest times of day - helps us test new strategies and creatives sooner.

Your experience, combined with Meta’s data, is the fastest path to finding and scaling the right audience for your experiences.
