Understanding Pricing Plans

Understory offers four pricing plans tailored to different business needs:

  1. Explorer Plan (free)

  2. Starter Plan

  3. Growth Plan

  4. Enterprise Plan

Each plan includes:

  • Subscription Fee: Monthly or yearly billing options available.

  • Booking Fee: A percentage fee for each booking processed.

  • Annual Booking Cap: Plans come with specific booking limits; accounts exceeding caps will be upgraded automatically unless manually adjusted in Backoffice.

How to Choose or Change Your Understory Plan

For New Customers (Signing Up)

All new users start on the Explorer plan – full access to Understory with no credit card required. Your first 50 bookings are free, so you can explore the product and set up your experiences and Storefront risk-free.

  • On the Explorer plan, you can use every feature and see how Understory works for your business.

  • When you're ready, or once you're getting close to using your 50 free bookings, you'll select a paid plan (Starter, Growth, or Enterprise) with monthly or yearly billing. Billing starts automatically based on the plan you choose.

For Existing Customers (Managing Your Plan)

  1. Click the small arrow in the bottom left corner – Opens your company menu.

  2. Go to "Company settings" – Opens company settings area.

  3. Click the "Payments" tab – Access subscription and billing.

  4. Choose "Manage subscription" – View existing plan and options.

  5. Select a new plan, update your payment card, or cancel your subscription – Follow on-screen prompts to confirm changes.

  6. Confirm and save changes – Updates are made immediately.

Changing your payment card

Your payment card is managed in the same place as your plan. Under Manage subscription you can add a new card or edit the existing one — for example when a colleague leaves and their card is on the account, or when a card expires. The change takes effect immediately and does not affect your plan or renewal date.

How Plan Management Works in Understory

With Understory's Plan Management, you stay in control of your subscription from inside your Backoffice — without needing to contact support. If your annual booking volume surpasses the plan's cap, your account will be automatically upgraded to the next tier to ensure uninterrupted service. However, manual adjustments are still available via Backoffice if needed.

  • Easily compare features and pricing

  • Switch between available plans for more flexibility

  • Add or change your payment card

  • Cancel your subscription when your needs change

Plan changes and cancellations take effect based on your current billing cycle. You'll always see any costs or upcoming changes before confirming.

Business value: This gives you flexibility to scale your plan as bookings grow, reduces admin time, and ensures transparent billing — all from one place, anytime you need it.

Note: If you can't change your plan, please contact Understory support for further help.

Pausing Your Subscription for the Off-Season

Running a seasonal business and want to take a break outside your high season? Please don't cancel your subscription — cancelling can remove your setup, experiences, and data.

Here's what to do instead:

  1. Reach out to us in the chat window at the bottom right, or email [email protected], and tell us which period you'd like to pause (for example 1 October–30 April).

  2. We'll pause your subscription for you, so you're not billed during the paused period.

  3. When your season starts again, we reactivate your account — everything is exactly as you left it.

Note: Pausing is the one thing that is not self-service — it is handled by our team. "Manage subscription" lets you change your plan, update your card and cancel, but it has no pause option, so please don't cancel when what you want is a temporary pause.
