Promo codes allow you to offer discounts to your customers, encouraging them to make a purchase they may have hesitated about before. With Understory, you can create flexible promo codes to boost sales, fill up slower periods, or reward loyal guests. You set the rules on how, when, and where these discounts apply—across all experiences or just specific ones.
How to create a promo code
Requirements: Admin or Manager role, or Permission: "Marketing settings: Edit"
Go to Grow > Promo codes - Opens promo codes dashboard
Click [+ Promo code] - Starts new discount code setup
Enter the discount code details:
Name of discount code (minimum 6 characters suggested)
Select if it should apply to all experiences or choose specific ones
Set the discount value (percentage or fixed amount)
Decide if the discount applies to the entire order or per guest
Choose validity (unlimited, or set start/end date)
Set usage limit (unlimited or define total uses)
Click "Create Discount code" - New promo code is saved and active- Define the text of the discount code that customers will enter (e.g., "SUMMER2023")
Specify whether the code applies to a specific event, item, or category.
How to edit or delete a promo code

Go to Grow > Promo codes - Opens promo codes dashboard
Find the promo code you want to change
Click the three dots (⋮) next to the code - Shows options
Select "Edit" or "Delete" - Update code or remove it
What can I do with promo codes?
Promo codes are a powerful tool to drive more bookings and manage demand. You can:
Offer discounts for certain dates/times to fill slow slots
Reward repeat guests with exclusive codes
Limit codes to specific experiences, or make them site-wide
Control exactly how long a code is valid and how many times it can be used- Allow customers to use multiple discount codes during checkout for added flexibility
All created codes are listed on the Promo codes page. Here you can check if codes are active/expired and see how many times they’ve been used.
FAQ### Using Multiple Discount Codes Customers can apply multiple discount codes during checkout by entering each code one at a time in the designated field and clicking "Use" after each entry. This allows for greater flexibility in combining promotions.
Can I make promo codes valid for specific experiences only? Yes. When creating a code, choose “No, let me choose specific experiences” and select which experiences the code applies to.
Can I exclude add-ons from the discount when creating promo codes? Yes. To prevent discounts from applying to add-ons, configure the discount to apply "per guest" rather than to the entire order.
Open the specific experience you want to modify.
Click on the 'Edit' button located in the top-right corner of the page.
Navigate to the 'Tickets/Billetter' section.
Select the ticket that needs updating.
Adjust the pricing for the add-on as required.
Save your changes to apply the updates. By following these steps, you can ensure that your add-ons are priced accurately and in line with operational goals.
